Gholam-Hossein Nozari continued: "This is one of the biggest gas injection into oil reserve projects and has been assigned as priority by the respected IRI Supreme Leader and is under implementation.
He further stated gas injection is one of the best methods of increasing extraction from the 10 reserves within the country. The execution of phases 6, 7 and 8 of the giant South Pars gas fields, installation of 510 km. of pipeline, land surface facilities and digging of 21 wells costing over 2,700,000 bn rials are other aspects of the project.
This project aims to inject one bn cubic feet of gas every day and in the next month the Aghajari reserve will reach two bn cf per day. The present production rate of the project is 200,000 barrels per day which will hopefully reach 300,000 b/d in the future, but without execution of this all important projects the production would have remained at 50,000 barrels per day.
The Minister of Oil concluded that the gas injection into the reserve is paving the way for use of future generations and added that the gas injected into the field as well as the oil extracted can be reused in the sweetening process, network boosting and re-injection into the consumption sector of the country.
These facilities have been manufactured and utilized with the objective of preventing environmental pollution, avoiding waste of the national assets, as well as enhancing the country's economic potentials. Our present information indicate that in order to clean the oil wells in different zones of oil fields, the crude oil of more than one hundred oil wells are annually directed to the burning pits. The amount of oil burned in the pits equals to 1,250,000 barrels per year. Compulsory burning of the surplus oil in the pits are done in order to clean the newly drilled oil wells, cleaning the wells after injecting acid, and/or upon repairing the wells.
Such activities cause severe pollution of the environment and inflict heavy lost to the economy. It may also lead to tardiness and stoppage of the cleaning operation around the oil wells situated in vicinity of the residential areas and industrial establishments.
This preventive projects was originally initiated in 1991. Upon careful technical and operational studies, negotiation with domestic and foreign manufacturers of the needed facilities, as well as upon approval of the board of directors of NISOC and securing adequate means of execution the project, offer made of the domestic manufacturers to design and manufacture the facilities whose costs were estimated to be in vicinity of 15,800,000,000 Rials. The facilities were first installed in the operational zone of Ahwaz wells on 18/11/1999.
Manufacturing and utilization of the said mobile facilities were the first attempt of its kind in the country.
